Chwalfa: Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru
Design, Art direction
The Welsh-language drama production brought to the stage the Great Strike of the Penrhyn Quarry — Wales’ longest running industrial dispute. T Rowland Hughes’ popular novel comes to life when ‘Chwalfa’ portrays the devastating effects of the strike on the community, which lasted from 1900 to 1903, as told from the perspective of one fictitious family.
We commissioned photography of the quarry and community as it stands today, and presented imagery and typography sliced in two as a subtle reference to the effect the strike had on both communities and families.
